World Book and Copyright Day, 23 April

Today is World Book and Copyright Day!

This day is the symbolic date for world literature, as Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died on this day in 1616. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. Check out the JCU Library's literature collection for the works of many of these authors.

You don't have to read high-brow literature to participate in today's celebrations.  Read any book, and encourage everyone, particularly young people, to discover the joys of reading.  Today is all about enjoying books, and respecting the contributions of authors who have given so much to the cultures of the world.
