Dectective Wayne Poirot-Holmes (the most ingenious giant papier mâché curlew in the whole of the university) has revealed a number of shocking facts! Three, to be exact.
Shocking Fact Number One:
Alegernon is not dead! He has been in hiding for the past month!
Shocking Fact Number Two:
Algernon has a long-lost twin brother named Earnest!
Shocking Fact Number Three:
Earnest was impersonating Algernon when he accidentally tripped and fell, and his death was a complete accident!
The librarians have been completely cleared of any implications of wrong doing, and would like to talk to the student who thought leaving a banana peel in the library was a good idea.
Algernon, having established that no one is trying to kill him, is happy to return to duties.
He is, of course, upset to discover his long-lost brother is dead. He’s also rather annoyed by the fact that his long-lost brother was impersonating him. However, he has stoically agreed to continue working at the Library until his contract has expired.
When you think about it, the whole thing is just like a crime story from The Strand Magazine.
By the way, we have the complete set of The Strand Magazine, which is full of stories written by minor writers like Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers…
