They are both Townsville's flora and fauna emblems, and feature in a small display on the first floor of JCU Library, Townsville.

The Native Kapok tree (Cochlospermum gillivraei) is native to the Townsville region, and features vibrant yellow flowers. It can be seen on JCU Townsville campus.

The Brolga (Grus rubicunda) is also Queensland's bird emblem, and is found across tropical northern Australia.
