Celebrate Mabo Day, June 3rd .
JCU Library and Information Services is proud to have its Townsville Library named after Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Piadaram clan member, Merian man in the Torres Strait and long term Townsville resident. He is most famous for the legal cases that began the recognition of the Native Title rights held by his fellow Torres Strait Islander peoples and mainland Aboriginal Australians.
You can come view the art exhibition commemorating the naming of the Library at Townsville; members of the public are welcome. Then browse our collection and learn a bit more about Mr Mabo, the Torres Strait Islander's and Australian Aboriginal people's diverse cultures and history. Cairns Library has a display for the National Reconciliation Week on the ground floor of the library and of course a range of titles to browse.
