The first generations of women university students were called bluestockings. Although initially a somewhat derogatory term, women proudly used
the expression themselves to identify with being scholarly, inquisitive and
clever.
Bluestocking Week is an initiative of the NTEU Women’s Action Committee. It is an opportunity for women in universities and in the broader community to celebrate achievements while highlighting the issues women are still struggling with today.

The ACTU 'Change the Rules' campaign has highlighted continuing issues with gender pay inequity, job insecurity and inequality for women workers. In line with this campaign, the theme for Bluestocking Week 2018 is "Women change the rules."
Both the Townsville and Cairns Campus libraries are hosting an NTEU morning tea and a display of resources from the library collection to celebrate women who have changed the rules in higher education. We look forward to seeing you there!
When: 13 August 18, 10am -- 10:45am
