Nurses and midwives play a vital role in providing health services. They devote their lives to caring for mothers and children; giving lifesaving immunizations and health advice; looking after older people and generally meeting everyday essential health needs. They are often the first and only point of care in their communities. The world needs 9 million more nurses and midwives if it is to achieve universal health coverage by 2030 (United Nations, 2020).
That's why the United Nations has designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. JCU is contributing to this goal by training hundreds of nurses and midwives each year. The library supports nursing and midwifery students by providing tailored resources in the Nursing & Midwifery Guide, and by supporting research in the classroom and in one-on-one consultations. Research publications by JCU staff and students can be found in Research Online.
