50 Treasures: Celebrating 50 Years of James Cook University

In 2020 James Cook University will celebrate 50 years as a fully-fledged university, and it is going to be an exciting year! JCU Library Special Collections will join in the University’s official celebrations by showcasing 50 treasures from its collections, including items from the JCU Art Collection, the North Queensland Collection, the Shaw Collection of Australian Art and Culture, the Rare Books Collection, and the Archives of the JCU Library.

We’ve chosen a stunning selection of the most rare and precious artefacts, including original manuscripts and artworks. Starting in January, each week we’ll highlight a different treasure. Discover the story of each item by reading about each treasure on our JCU Library News blog, exploring the displays in the Library, and by accessing a digitised version of the treasures online, at our NQHeritage@JCU repository.

Set off on a journey through 150 years of history as you encounter explorers and creators of all kinds and gain insights into life - on the land, in our towns and on the Great Barrier Reef.
