The theme of International Women’s Day 2020 is, I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights. 

Achieving gender equity and empowering women is the focus of the fifth Sustainable Development Goal. Despite some advances in women's rights, no country has achieved gender equality.

Did you know:

• Women earn 23% less than men globally
• Women occupy only 24% of parliamentary seats worldwide
• One in three women have experienced physical or sexual violence and 200 million girls and women have suffered genital mutilation

The Generation Equality campaign aims to achieve equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, an end to sexual harassment and all forms of violence against women and girls, health-care services that respond to their needs, and equal participation in political life and decision-making in all areas of life.
