January 2021, Opening Hours and System Changes

Welcome back!

Opening Hours

In January 2021 (until the start of Semester One, on February 15), we'll be working on Summer Hours. This means our services are only operating on weekdays, between 8am and 5pm.

We are closed nights and weekends, and after hours you can only access those parts of the library buildings that are available via swipe card. Make sure you bring it with you.

Keep an eye on our Opening Hours pages for more details.

Changes to Library Systems

During January, we are moving over to our new Library Services Platform. This means you may experience some changes in the way we do things.

The biggest change you'll probably notice is the way we communicate with you - we no longer have SMS messages, and our emails will have a new format.

All of our physical items will automatically renew unless someone has placed a hold on them. If someone requests the item, you will receive a notice telling you it must be returned by the current due date.

Our loan periods have changed with the new system. Instead of having 2 Day loans, we now have a new Short Loan period of 3 days that kicks in when an item has been requested multiple times (it becomes "high use") to meet demand, and switches off when the material is not longer heavily used. Regular loans are now 3 weeks across the board (including for staff and post graduate students).

All receipts will be sent via email, and you will receive a monthly email reminding you what items you have checked out.

Students who are also staff members won't have to juggle two accounts anymore as their identities will be merged in the new system.

One Search is upgrading to a new system that incorporates the catalogue, so you won't link out to a separate catalogue record any more (and all of the catalogue details can be seen in One Search itself). While the new One Search will work in a similar way to the old One Search, it gives us more power to explore the Library's collections and provides improved options for saving searches and results. New training material for One Search will be available when we switch to the new version.

During the change over

During the change between systems, there are some days when we will need to process things manually, or when certain functions are frozen, so please bear with us while we make these changes.

Additionally, we have many links in our Guides and web pages that will be updated as soon as we are able to, so you may still see references to the old systems on our site while we move through to make all of the changes.

If you have any questions or experience any difficulty with using our systems and services, please contact us.
