O-Week in Semester Period 1 runs from 15-19 February, and it's a good opportunity to get organised before lectures start in Week One.
Here is our "must know" list for O-Week:
1. Know where the library is
The library buildings in Townsville and Cairns are home to several key services:
- InfoHelp desk – Library staff can help you with researching and referencing for your assignments, finding resources and managing your library account. Contact your liaison librarian for further assistance.
- Our friendly InfoHelp Rovers can help with basic IT and library-related questions, including setting up your wifi and connecting to our printers.
- The Learning Centre can provide advice on writing your assignments, taking exams and managing your time effectively.
- Student Equity and Wellbeing provide support to help you survive and thrive at university. Their services include AccessAbility, Counselling and Multifaith Chaplaincy.
- Careers and Employability helps you plan your career path from Day One.
2. Know what's available off campus
Can't come into the library? Studying off campus?
- You can search our resources and access ebooks, journal articles and more from the One Search box on our home page. The majority of our resources are available online. Register for our Exploring the Digital Library workshop to learn more.
- Do you live in Australia and are more than 50 kilometres from the Townsville or Cairns libraries? Our Off Campus services can help you access physical resources.
- Our chat service lets you talk to a librarian during our opening hours, no matter where you are.
- Our FAQs can help you find answers even when the library's closed.
- Check out your Subject Guide to see recommended resources for your discipline.
3. Get skilled up
- We run workshops in O-Week and during the semester to help you get on top of your assignments. Our workshops are open to all students and will be held online.
- Our online guides cover everything we look at in our workshops and more.
- The new InfoSkills Toolkit is a self-paced series of online training modules that will help you learn how to research information for your assignments, evaluate what you find and reference it.
- Continuing students will notice we also have a new-look One Search. To learn how to use it effectively, register for our ‘Finding Information for Assignments’ workshop or check out the Using One Search guide.
4. Join in the fun
We like to think of the library as a community, not just a resource.
- Take part in our library quiz and get to know our physical libraries
