Summer Time - Inter-Semester Opening Hours


Starting on Friday, 19th November 2021, JCU Libraries switch over to our Summer Opening Hours.

During Summer, our Australian Campus libraries are open for the following hours:

The Eddie Koiki Mabo Library on the Bebegu Yumba Campus (Townsville) 

  • Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (until 12pm, Friday, 24 December 2021)
  • Saturday 1pm-5pm (until 5pm, Saturday, 11 December 2021)
  • Sunday 1pm-5pm (until 5pm, Sunday 5 December 2021)
24 hour Information Commons will remain open until 12pm, 24 December 2021 and will reopen at 8am, 4 January 2022.

The Cairns Library on the Nguma-bada Campus

Library Services:
  • Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (until 12pm, Friday, 24 December 2021)
  • Saturday-Sunday closed
Library Building:
  • Monday-Sunday 7.30am-10pm (until 12pm, Friday. 24 December 2021)

Campus Closure 

JCU Australian Campus closure will take effect from 12pm on Friday, 24 December 2021 until Tuesday, 4 January 2022. During this time, Information Commons in Townsville will also be closed. Please click here to view all current Library Opening Hours information.

Tiny Santa wanted to borrow out some Summer Reading books from the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library in Townsville. "I think I'll check out the Curriculum Collection," said Tiny Santa. "It has many of the best, most fun books for Summer Reading!" So Tiny Santa went to the Western end of the First Floor of the Mabo Library, where the Curriculum Collection has been for years. eBook Release: Pacific French Intermediate Workbook

We are excited to announce the launch of the second book from the JCU Open Education Initiative on JCU Open eBooks! Pacific French Intermediate Workbook is the creation of Dr Florence Boulard, the Associate Dean Learning and Teaching for the College of Arts, Society and Education at James Cook University and the director of the Academy of Modern Languages at James Cook University. Dr Boulard has been teaching French for many years and she has been working closely with high school-based language teachers to help foster an interest in the French language spoken in the Pacific. Many people in Australia want to learn French in order to visit our neighbours: New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna and French Polynesia. However, most of the books and resources for learning French focus on the kind of French spoken in Paris. Our Pacific neighbours have a rich and vibrant culture that has shaped the language they use, and the French spoken in the Pacific island countries has a unique flav
