Ask Questions

Ask Questions!

What's our biggest tip for student success (apart from "don't leave everything to the last minute")?

Ask questions.

Successful students ask questions.

A lot of people worry that they should know something already, so they don't want to ask - but you can't know everything automatically. Maybe you missed the bit where this piece of information was mentioned, but maybe it was never mentioned. Just ask.

And it might seem like everyone knows this except you - but they're all faking it. Especially Troy. Sure, he looks like he's got it sorted, but he's secretly stressing out because he doesn't want to ask questions (in case it looks like he doesn't already know the answers), so he doesn't know half of what he needs to know to make a real go of this "university student" thing. You'll be instantly smarter than him just by asking questions.

Smug-looking young man who is probably woefully uninformed.
Troy. He doesn't know anything without asking either.

So proudly walk up to the people who do know - the people at the help desks, the people on the chat services - and ask all the "stupid" questions.

You can ask us all the questions you need face-to-face at the InfoHelp desk on the ground floor of the library, but you can also use our chat service and our FAQs, or leave a question with us and we’ll get back to you. Find the details on our Connect with Us page. If we can’t answer them, we’ll point you in the right direction to find someone who can. The Learning Centre, AccessAbility, Counselling and the JCU Student Centre are all here to answer questions as well.

Also, don't leave it to the last minute.
