JCU Hearts in Support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart

 Wadda Mooli / Greetings all,

JCU is committed to working towards the achievement of genuine and sustainable reconciliation between Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community.

For this year’s National Reconciliation Week, the JCU Libraries on the Bebegu Yumba and the Nguma-bada campuses are hosting an interactive activity in support of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, calling for a Voice to Parliament, Treaty and Truth-telling.

The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

JCU Hearts in Support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart includes a pop up information booth/selfie station situated in the libraries where visitors, staff, students and the community can become familiar with the Statement and join the movement to support it.

Activities will include: learning more about the statement, making paper origami hearts and attaching them to our unique installation, taking selfies with your own heart and our installation and uploading your photos, adding your name to the Uluru Statement Canvas to register your support.

The activity will commence during National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) and run until 10 July 2022. We invite you all to participate!

You can lend more support by:

  • Talking about the Statement and its meaning with your friends, family and work colleagues
  • Make your support known - share your support through your networks, and online via social media using the official downloadable materials in the Supporter Kit
  • Link to the Statement’s social media platforms using the following tags: @UluruStatement #UluruStatement
  • Write to your MP: Let your Federal, State and Local Government representatives know you support a referendum on a constitutionally protected First Nations Voice.
  • Use these additional hashtags, to help link your activity to the broader action: #reconciliationaction #isupporttheulurustatement #voicetreatytruth
