What is Story Box Library?
This educational website was created for children to view stories by local authors and illustrators being read aloud by fantastic, predominantly Australian and New Zealand, storytellers. The streaming videos beautifully present all illustrations from each picture book, with added sound effects for a vibrant, immersive storytelling experience for children. Stories are also often accompanied by activities, classroom ideas and student task sheets.
Why is Story Box Library in the JCU Library collection?
JCU provides staff and students with subscription access to Story Box Library, particularly as a specialist resource for Education students that can help improve language and literacy skills in the early years of a child's development. It may also be of interest to Speech Pathology students and others. All parents and carers at JCU will also enjoy having access to Story Box Library to entertain their children with fun, educational content that gets kids excited about reading, inspires their imaginations, and lets them have fun with stories.
Which stories are available?
Story Box Library presents a great variety of classic and modern tales, with new titles added every month! Titles are helpfully categorized on the Story Box Library home page by themes, alternatively you can browse All Stories to see what tickles your fancy. A selection of titles have been added which include an Auslan translator in the videos, for more inclusive access.
