Whether you have a child or an inner child, embrace CBCA book week August 20-26 and dream with your eyes open. Teacher, author and illustrator Jasmine Seymour is the creative talent behind this year’s CBCA week artwork, and she explains that “dreaming is not something that belongs only to the past, it is all around us now, then and always”.
The Children’s Book Council of Australia book week has been running since 1945 and is an opportunity to celebrate Australian authors and illustrators, as well as bringing together children and books. Come and see the book week display in the Mabo library or join in with the book week parade at 10 am on Friday August 26 in the library foyer. In Cairns, you can check out the activities being run by the public libraries, including a book week competition and daily story times.
Don’t forget to take a look at the range of picture books in
our curriculum collection. We also have some works by Jasmine Seymour, including Open your heart to Country and Baby Business. Storybox Library has prepared a load of great resources just for CBCA book week
(these are particularly useful for teachers).
Storybox Library is an awesome resource available to JCU staff and students that
allows you to curate playlists of children’s books being read aloud by local
talents, and these are accompanied by pictures and fantastic animations. This can be a
bedtime lifesaver for those with kids that always want just one more story!
Happy book week everyone!
