New eBook Release: A Contemporary Approach to Research and Statistics in Psychology

JCU Library is very excited to announce the release of the new open eBook, A Contemporary Approach to Research and Statistics in Psychology, by Dr Klaire Somoray.  This introductory resource on the key concepts in psychology statistics is peer-reviewed and aimed at undergraduate psychology students.

Dr Somoray has adapted and built on highly approachable material to develop a book that presents potentially dry topics in a friendly and engaging tone. The resulting work explores topics that will enable students to grasp key concepts in undergraduate psychology courses. The goal of this freely available eBook is to empower future psychology scholars to conduct better science.

This eBook utilises open-sourced software, jamovi, and aims to remove the barrier of paid/subscription statistical analysis software. This means students do not need to access expensive software to learn statistical concepts, nor do they have to worry about losing access when they graduate.

Chapters include:

  • Research and Statistical Thinking in Everyday Life
  • Working with jamovi
  • Brief Review of Research Methods
  • The Replication Crisis
  • Aggregation
  • Modelling Variations
  • The General Linear Model
  • Putting it all Together
  • Beyond Research and Statistics.
