Exciting News!
We've been nominated for an Open Education Award for Excellence!
Actually, we've been nominated for two!
Award category: Open reuse/remix/adaptation
This award recognises an outstanding example of OER that has been adapted from existing open content in a way that demonstrates the value of reuse. Our current Law Liaison Librarian (Annette Messell) and previous Law Liaison Librarian (now Open Education Librarian, Alice Luetchford) were instrumental in writing this book with colleagues from other institutions.
Award category: Significant impact OER
This award recognizes high-quality innovative teaching and learning materials openly shared that has also demonstratively had a major impact on accessibility, distribution, remix, learning, or social change. These include but are not limited to Open Courses, Open Textbooks, Videos / Simulations / Animations, Audio / Audiobook, etc. This book was a true collaboration from university professional and academic staff. Edited by Susan Gasson, Jillian Blacker, Ian Stoodley, Abbe Winter and Christine Bruce.

We also have academics and library staff as members of other teams that have been nominated for various awards, including:
- Australasian OEP Digest team (Award category: Open curation/repository)
- Australasian Open Educational Practices Special Interest Group (Award category: Open collaboration)
- Congratulations to the CAUL Open Educational Resources Collective (Award category: Open collaboration)
The Open Collaboration Award goes to an environment that fosters the collective production of open resources and open practices with a shared goal. The OER collective provides opportunities for collaboration and professional development as well as a platform for book publishing. JCU academics have partnered with JCU Library and CAUL to develop books like:
- Neuroscience, Psychology and Conflict Management, by Judith Rafferty.
- Exploring Sociology in the Antipodes: Introduction to Sociology – 1st Australian Edition, By Theresa Petray and Nick Osbaldiston
- Legal Research Skills: An Australian Law Guide
- A Contemporary Approach to Research and Statistics in Psychology, by Klaire Somoray.
We also wanted to extend our congratulations to our colleague Adrian Stagg, from the University of Southern Queensland for his leadership award nomination. Adrian has been instrumental in the Open Education Landscape in Australia, and we wish him all the best!
Congratulations to all the shortlisted nominees! We are so proud of the work being done by so many from JCU Library, the JCU community and many others across Australia and the world. Making education more accessible and affordable means that all the nominees are already winners.
