Open Access Week Awards 2025 @JCU Library

We are very pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Open Access Week Awards!

These awards were established in 2020, to celebrate the contribution made by JCU researchers and educators towards Open Access publishing.

The ECR Open Access Champion Award 2025 was awarded to the Early Career Researcher who had made the greatest contribution to Open Access at JCU through their research publications within the last three years. The winners were:

  • 2025 ECR Open Access Champion: Dr Alzayat Saleh, College of Science and Engineering  
  • 2025 ECR Green Open Access Champion: Mohammad Jahanbakht, College of Science and Engineering   
  • 2025 Highly Commended: Jodie Schlaefer, TropWater

The HDR Open Access Advocate Award (jointly organised with the Graduate Research School) was awarded to the Higher Degree Researcher student who had created the poster that best responds to the question, “Who Owns Our Knowledge?”

The Open Education Champion Award 2025 is presented to the staff member who, in the opinion of an expert judging panel, has made the greatest contribution to open education at JCU during 2024–2025. The winner was:
  • 2025 Winner: Open Education Champion: Colleen Hodgins, Education Design
The JCU Open eBook Excellence and Impact Award 2025 honours an outstanding open educational resource published in 2023 or 2024 and that significantly enhances the JCU student experience.
