Other roads to zero-textbook-costs (ZTC) for JCU students

Students studying

We know that published Open Educational Resources (OERs) aren’t always available for every subject area. While new resources are being released all the time, gaps still exist. So, what are your options if a published OER doesn’t quite fit your needs?

Alternative pathways to Zero-Textbook-Costs (ZTC)

If you're looking to reduce textbook costs for your subject and published OERs aren’t an option, consider these alternatives:

  • Subject Readings: Curate a selection of top-tier resources from the Library’s collections and freely available online materials.
  • Library-subscribed etextbooks: Explore what’s already available through the Library, or request a purchase to support your subject.
  • JCU Open eBooks: Take the lead by authoring (adapting or creating) a new OER tailored to your teaching needs.

Benefits that speak for themselves

Going ZTC with your subject readings isn’t just about saving students money - it’s about flexibility, inclusivity and making learning available to students from day one of their studies.
