Study Skills Book Display

A message from Dr. Algernon Gorilla: “Hello, everyone. Since returning from my sabbatical, I have been putting a lot of thought into what people really need from a book display at this time of semester. By now, you’ve probably had a chance to start working on your first piece of assessment — perhaps you’ve even finished it — and you have a feel for how well you might be doing at this whole University Thing. If, like many others before you, you feel you could possibly be doing a bit better at this whole University Thing, then perhaps these books may be of some service to you. Feel free to take them from this display, borrow them and read them. Then feel free to run around thumping your hands against your rib-cage and making grunting sounds. It usually works for me. Then again, I am a gorilla..."

Upcoming Training - Referencing and EndNote

The last of the Townsville Referencing Workshops will be held this Tuesday at 2.00pm in the InfoHelp Training Room on the top floor of the Eddie Koiki Mabo Library. Cairns sessions are running on Wednesday mornings on selected dates in March and April (more information about Cairns times can be found here: InfoHelp Tutorials & Training - Cairns ) This session will cover how to use referenced material appropriately and effectively in your assignment, as well as looking at a number of different referencing styles. EndNote Web training sessions in Townsville are being held next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (22nd-24th of March) in the InfoHelp Training room. Cairns sessions are run on alternating Wednesdays and Fridays throughout March and April. Internet Outages Overnight 12th March

A Central Computing Bulletin states: On Saturday, the 12th of March at 8pm to Sunday the 13th at 4am, the fibre link connecting JCU to our Internet provider will be down for full repair and testing. IT&R will also be performing some work which will also cause interruptions to Internet, Inter-campus, Colleges and Wireless access for all campus' during the outage window. Automatic email forwarding to will cease 13th March

The automatic email forwarding from to firstname.lastname@ my will cease on 13th of March 2011. From this date, email sent to a student account will bounce back to the sender asking them to try resending the message to the same recipient @ my All JCU corporate systems now contain the new address format. You may wish to notify other systems and people outside of JCU of the change to your email address.

LearnJCU and Reserve Online planned maintenance

JCU ITR Advises in a bulletin LearnJCU and Reserve Online will be unavailable for maintenance/upgrade work Friday March 11th, 2011 from 6am to allow for maintenance and upgrade work. The outage may last as long as three hours to apply numerous changes that are required for a further upgrade step to be performed during another upgrade window - to be advertised in due cause. The changes include: LearnJCU Database access point relocation to allow for next upgrade step. Masterfile DB relocation into the data centre network as well as allowing for additonal diskspace. Women Artists of North display - International Women’s Day 2011

The display for International Women’s Day in the Cairns Library features information about women artists who were born in or work in North Queensland. Artists featured include: Thanakupi who was born on the Weipa Mission; Rosella Namok who was born at Lockhart River; Evelyn McGreen who, although born at Woorabinda, moved to Hope Vale in the 1950s, where her parents were from; Emily Ngarnal Evans who was born and has lived all her life on Mornington Island. All the information comes from items held in the Cairns Special Collection or the Main Collection, and includes exhibition catalogues, programmes and leaflets, as well as books.
